Although credit card terminals look pretty straight forward, there are various types and models that have different features, advantages, and costs.
Basic, or traditional, models are the barebones, prototypical machines that are frequently seen on various cash counters around the world. They have a keypad to enter prices and various other pieces of information, a magnetic stripe reader, and a small display. They do require a printer, which can come attached or separate.
Another terminal model is one that you won’t find in any store, but is still extremely popular. These terminals are exclusively for Internet use and are called “virtual terminals” since they don’t have any physical location or hardware, but rather exist as a function of software. The third common terminal type is a wireless credit card terminal. These terminals are perfect for business in temporary locations or business’ that travel frequently. A merchant can take his business anywhere, accept payment and even print out receipts on the spot. Look into features such as weight, range, weight, and shock-resistance when shopping around.
Take time to explore the different benefits that each credit card model. Many merchants prefer to have a terminal that will accept debit and gift cards. Be sure to inquire about these features and others with your seller.
